This slow moving, deep exploratory 5 week course will provide you, the student with the basics of how a Vinyasa Flow (Yang) and a Yin Yoga (restorative) practice works. Vinyasa is a method of practicing asana (physical poses), in a sequence, flowing one to the next. The practice focuses on aligning the breath with movement while being mindful of healthy alignment principles. Yin is a more passive style, expect a lot of floor work with props such as bolster, blankets and block. Poses are held from 1-5 minutes and offer deep release from stress and tension held in the body. The 5 Elements philosophy, springing forth from the same roots as yoga are Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether (light, life, consciousness, space). They are found in all aspects of life and in all things. They are wonderful to explore both physically, mentally and spiritually while in the asanas (postures). Interestingly, many other cultures integrate a concept of the 5 Elements, such as the Chinese tradition, although slightly different: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water, during this course we will explore both traditions concepts in our Yang & Yin practice. To compliment our yoga practice we will use  essential oil blends that are based on the principles of the Chinese Five Elements which are used in Traditional Chinese Medicine. They will be diffused, used as room sprays, inhaled and applied via mini head massages

The course will include the following and much more:

  •       Standing and Balancing postures to build stability and strength, lengthening hamstrings and thighs
  •       Flowing Sun salutations & hip opening postures
  •       Core Strength & Twists to aid digestion
  •       Chest, shoulders, spine opening backbends, sidebends, forward bends
  •       Simple breathing techniques to calm your mind and improve circulation, digestion and sleep

This course is perfect for students new to yoga or for those students wishing to revisit the fundamentals. On completion of the course you will have the experience to attend many other drop in classes on the timetable or signup again and again as some of our regular clients do.
